PATTERN
FRONT
Start with your Main Color (MC).
Foundation Chain: Chain (ch) 57.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Make 1 single crochet (sc) into the 2nd chain from your hook. Then make 1 sc in each chain across. You should have 56 stitches at the end. Turn your work.
Row 2: Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet – dc). Skip the first stitch, then make 1 dc in each stitch across. Turn your work.
Row 3: Chain 1. Make 1 sc in each stitch across. Turn.
These last 2 rows (Row 2 and Row 3) create your pattern.
Keep repeating them until your piece measures 24 inches [61 cm] from the beginning. Make sure your last row ends with the right side facing you.
Shaping the Top
Next Row:
Chain 4 (this counts as a treble crochet – tr).
In the next stitch, begin a dc2tog (double crochet 2 together): Yarn over (yoh), insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops — do this twice, then yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook.
Repeat dc2tog over the next 2 stitches.
Make 1 dc in each stitch across until 5 stitches remain.
Work dc2tog twice (over the next 4 stitches).
End with 1 tr in the last stitch. Turn your work.
Next Row:
Chain 1. Make 1 sc in the first stitch.
Begin sc2tog (single crochet 2 together): insert hook in next stitch, pull up a loop, then in the next stitch pull up another loop. Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops.
Repeat sc2tog once more.
Make 1 sc in each stitch across until 5 stitches remain.
Work sc2tog twice.
End with 1 sc in the last stitch. Turn.
Repeat the last 2 rows a total of 6 times (so you’ll have done them once already, then repeat 5 more times).
When you finish, you should have 8 stitches left.
Fasten off and place stitch markers at both ends of the last row.
