Santa Coaster
Welcome back to Handmade Learning Here, dear friend! I’m so happy you stopped by today, because I have the sweetest little holiday project to share with you. If you’ve been looking for a quick, cheerful, and beginner-friendly Christmas pattern, this Santa Coaster is the perfect way to sprinkle a bit of handmade magic around your home. Whether you’re decorating your table, adding cute touches to your workspace, or crafting thoughtful gifts for loved ones, this tiny Santa brings holiday warmth wherever he goes.

A Cozy Christmas Crochet Project
This Santa Coaster is worked in the round, beginning with Santa’s face and beard, and then building upward to shape his iconic red hat. The pattern uses basic stitches—double crochet, half double, single crochet, and simple increases—making it extremely accessible for beginners who want to practice shaping and color changes. Because the coaster is small and works up quickly, it’s also a wonderful project for more experienced crocheters looking for something relaxing and festive.
The combination of red, white, peach, and a touch of black gives Santa his classic Christmas look. His fluffy white beard is created using double crochets, while the red rows form a curved little hat that tilts playfully to the side. You’ll finish the coaster with a soft white border that adds charm and gives the entire piece a polished, wintery look.

SANTA COASTER – FULL PATTERN
We begin by creating Santa’s round little face, then add his hat, and finish with a decorative white border.
Face
Start with red yarn.
Rnd 1
Make a magic ring and work 12 dc into the ring. (12)
Rnd 2
We will divide this round into two colors:
-
Switch to peach yarn and work 6 dc inc (makes the skin area)
-
Switch to white yarn and work 6 dc inc (forms the beard area)
Total: (24)
Rnd 3
Work increases evenly around:
-
With peach yarn: (dc inc, dc) × 6
-
With white yarn: (dc inc, dc) × 6
Total: (36)
Switch to white yarn only.
Rnd 4
Work (2 dc, dc inc) all the way around. (48)
Rnd 5
For this round, you will change colors within the round again:
-
With red yarn: (3 dc, dc inc) × 4
-
With white yarn: (3 dc, dc inc) × 8
Total: (60)
Do not cut the white yarn—we’ll use it again later.
HAT
We now work the hat in rows instead of rounds.
Switch to red yarn.
Row 6
Work across the next stitches:
6 dc, then 8 hdc, then 5 sc, finish the row with a sl st.
Turn your work.
Row 7
Begin with:
sk 1, then 3 sl sts.
ch 6, and starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work 5 sc down the chain.
Continue along the row:
4 sc, 5 hdc, 8 dc.
Finish with ch 2 and a sl st.
FO red yarn.
This creates Santa’s cute floppy hat side.
WHITE BORDER
Using the white yarn left attached earlier, we’ll create a soft decorative edging around the outer edge of the coaster.
Repeat the following sequence all the way around the coaster:
(hdc, dc) in the same stitch, then (dc, hdc) in the next stitch, then 1 sl st.
Continue this pattern until you reach the end of the round.
Slip stitch to close, fasten off, and weave in ends.
🎅 Your adorable little Santa Coaster is ready!
Perfect for decorating your holiday table, giving as a sweet handmade gift, or adding a cozy Christmas touch to your home.
