Crochet Snowman

Hello, my dear crochet friends!  Welcome to our lovely blog Handmade Learning Here. As the winter breeze starts to whisper and the first snowflakes begin to fall, there’s nothing more heartwarming than creating a few adorable Crochet Snowman to brighten up your cozy home. These little snow buddies are about 5.6 inches tall, easy to make, and oh so full of charm!

A Little About the Pattern

The Crochet Snowman pattern is a delightful project for anyone who loves a bit of winter magic. Each snowman is crocheted in one piece from the top of the head down to the body, which makes it simple and beginner-friendly. You’ll use basic stitches like single crochet, increases, and decreases, so even if you’re new to amigurumi, you’ll do just fine!

The pattern uses white yarn for the body and grey for the hat. You’ll also need a small amount of peach or pink yarn for the nose, safety eyes, and a bit of stuffing to give your snowman that plump, jolly shape.

Bringing Your Snowman to Life

One of the sweetest details about this pattern is how the head and body come together as one smooth piece. As you crochet, remember to stuff firmly, your little friend should feel nice and squishy, just like a freshly packed snowball!

You can customize your snowman however you wish, maybe embroider initials on the front to make it a personalized gift, or sew on tiny buttons for a classic touch. A few stitches here and there, and before you know it, your snowman will be smiling right back at you!

And that tiny carrot nose? It’s simply the cutest! Just crochet a tiny cone with your peach yarn and sew it between the eyes. It adds so much personality and charm.

The pom-pom hat gives the snowmen their playful, wintry look. If you know how to knit, you can follow the original pattern for the sparkly double-strand design. But if crochet is your thing, Love & Stitch Co. also offers a free crochet version that’s just as adorable… complete with a fluffy pom-pom on top!

You can even use a strand of metallic embroidery thread for a twinkly effect,  it makes your snowmen look like they’re glistening in the snow.

Stitches & Abbreviations

👉 This pattern uses US crochet terms.

Abbreviations
MR Magic Ring
sc Single Crochet
inc Increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
dec Decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
sl st Slip Stitch
st(s) Stitch(es)
F/O Fasten Off

If you’ve never made a magic ring before, think of it as a loop that lets you pull the center tight so your snowman’s head doesn’t have a hole on top. You can also chain 2 and work your first stitches into the first chain if you prefer.

Helpful Tips Before Starting

Work in continuous rounds — don’t join with a slip stitch at the end of each round. Use your stitch marker to keep track.

Stuff your snowman as you go, and a little extra before you close it. This keeps him nice and plump.

Use an invisible decrease to keep your stitches smooth (but a normal decrease is fine too).

The head and body are made as one continuous piece — no sewing between them!

If you want to add sparkle, you can hold your main yarn together with metallic thread.

Head & Body

Using white yarn and 3.5 mm hook:

  • Round 1: Make a magic ring, 6 sc inside (6)
  • Round 2: 2 sc in each st (increase in each) (12)
  • Round 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Round 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Round 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Round 6: (4 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (36)
  • Rounds 7–12: 1 sc in each st around (36)

Add the safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, about 4 stitches apart.

  • Round 13: (4 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Round 14: (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Round 15: (2 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Round 16: (1 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (12)

Stuff the head firmly before you continue.

Now we’ll start increasing again for the body:

  • Round 17: (inc in each st) around (24)
  • Rounds 18–19: 1 sc in each st (24)
  • Round 20: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (30)

  • Round 23: 1 sc in each st (36)
  • Round 24: (5 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (42)
  • Rounds 25–29: 1 sc in each st (42)

Start stuffing the body now.

  • Round 30: (5 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (36)
  • Round 31: (4 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Round 32: (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Round 33: (2 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Round 34: (1 sc, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
  • Round 35: (dec) repeat 6 times (6)

Add a bit more stuffing if needed.
Fasten off and use your yarn needle to close the opening neatly.

 Nose

Using peach or pink yarn:

  • Round 1: Make a magic ring, 4 sc inside (4)
  • Round 2: inc, sc in next 3 sts (5)
  • Round 3: inc, sc in next 4 sts (6)
  • Round 4: sc in each st (6)

Slip stitch to close and leave a long tail for sewing.
Lightly stuff the nose and sew it between the eyes, around round 8 of the head.

Assembly

Sew the nose between the eyes.

Add buttons or embroider initials on the front if you’d like.

Pop the hat on your snowman’s head — you can even add a little glue or a stitch to hold it in place.

Fluff up your snowman and enjoy your new frosty friend!
