Mini Crochet Stockings – Pattern Notes

This mini stockings crochet pattern starts with the band at the top and works downward. We currently have just one size available, but you can easily adjust the size by using a different yarn weight. Just remember to choose a crochet hook that matches your yarn!

Also, keep in mind that the initial chain one at the beginning of the band rounds doesn’t count as a stitch. However, the chain three at the start of the other rounds does count as a double crochet stitch.

Mini Crochet Stockings – Gauge:

8 stitches x 6 rows = 2″ using Hdc in the round (measuring the leg stitches).

Finished Size:

Approximately 5.5 inches from the top to the toe (this may vary depending on how much you fold the band) and about 2.75 inches wide at the leg section of the mini stocking.

Mini Crochet Stockings Pattern

Band:

Round 1: Using color B, chain 20. Join with a slip stitch (slst) to the first chain to create a ring. Chain 1, then make a half double crochet (hdc) in each chain. Don’t join at the end of the round; continue working in a spiral.

Rounds 2-6: Work one hdc in each stitch. On the 6th round, after the last hdc, make a slst in the next stitch to fix the jog. Fasten off color B.

Now, flip the band so the right side is facing inward. This way, when you fold the band down, the front side of the stitches will be visible.

Mini Crochet Stockings Leg

Start Your Mini Crochet Stockings:

Join Color A: Attach color A to any stitch in your foundation chain at the bottom of the band. (A good spot is right next to your slip knot.)

Crochet the Leg:

Rounds 1-8:

Chain 1 (this does not count as a stitch).

Half double crochet (hdc) in each stitch around.

Important: Don’t join at the end of each round. Keep working in a spiral (this helps the stocking look smooth).

At the end of round 8, do not fasten off.

Mini Crochet Stockings Heel

Change Colors:

Slip stitch (slst) into the next stitch. Now break color A (cut the yarn, leaving a small tail) and join color B.

Create the Heel:

Row 1: Single crochet (sc) in the next 10 stitches. Chain 1 and turn. (You now have 10 stitches.)

Row 2:

Sc2tog (single crochet two together) for the first two stitches.

Sc in the next 6 stitches.

Sc2tog again.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 8 stitches.)

Row 3:

Sc2tog.

Sc in the next 4 stitches.

Sc2tog.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 6 stitches.)

Row 4:

Sc2tog.

Sc in the next 2 stitches.

Sc2tog.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 4 stitches.)

Row 5:

Sc2tog twice.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 2 stitches.)

Row 6:

Make 2 sc in each stitch (this will give you 4 stitches).

Chain 1 and turn.

Row 7:

Make 2 sc in the first stitch.

Sc in the next 2 stitches.

Make 2 sc in the last stitch.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 6 stitches.)

Row 8:

Make 2 sc in the first stitch.

Sc in the next 4 stitches.

Make 2 sc in the last stitch.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 8 stitches.)

Row 9:

Make 2 sc in the first stitch.

Sc in the next 6 stitches.

Make 2 sc in the last stitch.

Chain 1 and turn. (Now you have 10 stitches.)

Shape the Heel:

You’ve now created a flat “hourglass” shape.

Fold the top half of the hourglass down towards the outside of the stocking (make sure it’s wrong side out).

Finish the Heel:

Fasten off, leaving a tail about 6 inches long. Use this tail to sew the two edges together.

Turn the heel right side out and lay it flat for the next part of the stocking.

Mini Crochet Stockings Foot

Position Your Stocking:

Lay your stocking flat with the heel side facing up.

Join Color A: Attach color A to one of the middle stitches at the back of the heel.

Start the Foot Section:

Round 1:

Chain 1 (this doesn’t count as a stitch).

Half double crochet (hdc) in the same stitch where you joined color A.

Hdc in each remaining stitch of the heel until you reach the last stitch.

Decrease: Hdc2tog (half double crochet two together) over the last stitch of the heel and the first stitch of the leg (this helps transition smoothly between the heel and the leg).

Hdc in the next 8 stitches of the leg.

Decrease Again: Hdc2tog over the last stitch of the leg and the first stitch of the heel on the other side.

Hdc in each of the remaining heel stitches.

Important: Don’t join with a slip stitch (slst). Continue to the next round working in a spiral. You should now have 18 stitches in total.

Shape the Mini Crochet Stockings Foot:

Round 2:

Hdc in the next 4 stitches.

Hdc2tog (this is your first decrease for this round).

Hdc in the next 7 stitches.

Hdc2tog (second decrease for this round).

Hdc in the last 3 stitches.

You should now have 16 stitches.

Continue the Foot:

Rounds 3-4:

Hdc in every stitch around (16 stitches in each round).

At the end of round 4, break color A (cut the yarn, leaving a small tail).

Change Color:

Join Color B in the last stitch of round 4, and you’re ready to continue with the next part of the stocking!

Mini Crochet Stockings Toe

Shape the Mini Crochet Stockings Toe:

Round 1:

Half double crochet (hdc) in the first 2 stitches.

Decrease: Hdc2tog (half double crochet two together).

*Hdc in the next 2 stitches.

Hdc2tog.

Repeat from * to the end of the round.

Important: Do not join with a slip stitch (slst); keep working in a spiral. You should now have 12 stitches.

Continue Shaping the Toe:

Round 2:

Hdc in the first stitch.

Decrease: Hdc2tog.

*Hdc in the next stitch.

Hdc2tog.

Repeat from * to the end of the round.

Now you should have 8 stitches.

Finish the Toe:

Round 3:

Decrease all around:

Hdc2tog in every stitch (you’ll do this four times).

At the end of the round, you should have only 4 stitches left.

Close the Toe:

Slip stitch (slst) in the next stitch and fasten off, leaving a 6-inch tail.

Use this tail to sew the small opening at the toe closed.
