Making a Bottle Cozy

Start by wrapping yarn around your finger. Insert a crochet hook into the loop on your finger, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Carefully slip the loop from your finger and crochet the first round (Rnd 1) into it.

Round 1 (Right Side): Chain 1, single crochet 6 times in the loop, join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet. Gently pull the tail to tighten the center.

Round 2: Chain 1, single crochet 2 times in each stitch around, join with a slip stitch – now you have 12 single crochets in this round.

Continue this pattern, increasing stitches in each round until Round 8.

From Rounds 9 to 16, single crochet in each stitch around.

Starting the Lace Pattern

Round 17: Single crochet in the first 3 stitches, (chain 5, skip 5 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch) twice, chain 5, skip 5 stitches, single crochet in the next 7 stitches, (chain 5, skip 5 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch) twice, chain 5, skip 5 stitches, single crochet in the last 4 stitches.

Continue with Rounds 18 to 25, following the lace pattern.

Repeat Rounds 18 to 25 twice for Rounds 26 to 33.

Rounds 34 and 35: Repeat Round 18 twice.

Round 36: Chain 1, work 1 single crochet in each single crochet and 5 single crochets in each chain-5 space around; join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet – now you have 48 single crochets.

Rounds 37 and 38: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet.

Fasten off.

Making the Strap

From the right side, pull up a loop of yarn in the stitch directly above the first stitch of one of the 7-stitch wide columns.

Row 1: Chain 2, half-double crochet in the same stitch as joining, half-double crochet in the next 6 stitches.

Row 2: Chain 2, turn, half-double crochet in the next 7 stitches.

Repeat Row 2 until the strap measures about 25 inches, or your desired length.

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing. Sew the end of the strap to the cozy, directly above the opposite 7-stitch column.

Weave in the ends.

Now you have a cozy for your bottle with a decorative lace pattern and a strap!
