Crochet Dress for Barbies – Pattern Instructions

TOP SKIRT

Rnd 1: Chain 40 + 4 (44 chains total).

Rnd  2: In the 5th chain from the hook, make 3 treble crochet stitches (trcl). Chain 9.

*Make 4 treble crochet stitches (trcl), then chain 9. Repeat from * across the row. Turn your work.

Rnd 3: *Make 6 double crochets (dc), then chain 2 (ch2), and make 6 double crochets all in the same 9-chain loop. Repeat this across the row, and then join with a slip stitch (slst) to the beginning stitch.

Rnd 4: Slip stitch into the chain-2 space. Make a shell (usually a group of double crochets) into the chain-2 space. Chain 7, then make another shell into the chain-2 space. Slip stitch to join the round.

Rnd 5: Shell in Shell: In the space of the shell from the previous row, make a shell stitch.

Repeat: *Make 3 chain stitches, then make 1 double crochet stitch in the chain space, make 3 chain stitches again, and make another 1 double crochet stitch in the same chain space. Repeat from *. Slip stitch to the beginning to finish the round.

Rnd 6: In the same stitch as the previous round, make a shell .

*Chain 4 (4ch), make 1 double crochet (1dc) in the space created by 3 chains (3ch sp). Chain 2 (2ch), make another double crochet (1dc) in the same space (3ch sp). Chain 4 (4ch), then make another shell in the same space (3ch sp).* Slip stitch (slst) to join the round.

Rnd 7: In the space from the previous round, work a shell (which means doing some stitches in the same spot). After that, chain 5, make 1 double crochet (dc) in the 3-chain space, chain 5, and make another shell. Slip stitch to join the round.

Rnd 8: In the shell space, make 12 double treble crochet (dtr), chain 2, make 2 double treble crochet clusters (working around the center double crochet and into the chain space on either side), chain 2. Slip stitch to join the round.

Rnd 9: Skip the first double treble crochet (dtr). Work 1 dtr and 1 chain in each dtr around, but skip the last dtr. (There should be no chain space between the groups of dtr.)

Rnd 10: Repeat Round 9, but use 2 chains instead of 1 chain between each dtr.

Rnd 11: Repeat Round 10, but use 3 chains instead of 2 chains between each dtr.

Rnd 12: In each 3-chain space, work 4 double crochet (dc). Chain 5 to make a loop. Repeat by working 4 dc in each 3-chain space and 5-chain loops. Slip stitch to join the round.

Finish off your work by cutting the yarn and securing it.

 

UNDERSKIRT

Working on the opposite side of the starting chain of the overskirt:

Row 1: Make 1 double crochet (dc) in each stitch across the row.

Row 2: Make 1 double treble crochet (dtr) in each dc across the row.

Row 3: Make 1 dtr in each dtr across the row.

Row 4: Make 1 dtr in the next 3 stitches, then make 2 dtr in the next stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row 5: Make 1 dtr in each dtr across the row. Slip stitch (slst) to join.

Round 6: Make 1 dtr in each dtr around. Slst to join.

Round 7: Repeat Row 4. Slst to join.

Round 8: Repeat Row 5. Slst to join.

Round 9: Repeat Row 4. Slst to join.

Round 10: Make 1 dtr, then 2 dtr in the next stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the round. Slst to join.

Round 11: Make 1 dtr in each stitch around. Slst to join.

Finish: Fasten off your work.

 

TOP

Row 1: With the right side facing you and using peach yarn, make 1 treble crochet (tr) stitch between each treble crochet stitch on the first row of the skirt. You should have 42 stitches.

Row 2: Work 2 tr stitches together (tr2tog), then make 1 tr stitch in each of the next stitches until you have 2 stitches left. Work 2 tr stitches together again. You should now have 40 stitches.

 

Row 3: Repeat Row 2. You should have 38 stitches.

Rows 4-8: Make 1 tr stitch in each stitch across the row.

Row 9: Work a double crochet (dc) in the next 7 tr stitches. Chain 13, skip 4 stitches, dc in the next 14 tr stitches, chain 13, skip 4 stitches, and dc in the next 7 tr stitches.

Row 10: Chain 3, make 1 tr stitch in the next 5 tr stitches, then work 3 tr stitches together (3trtog). In the same chain space, make 1 tr stitch in each chain stitch up to the last chain, then work 3 tr stitches together again using the last chain stitch. Skip 2 stitches, then make 1 tr stitch, chain 2, and make 1 tr stitch in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, and repeat twice. Work 3 tr stitches together (3trtog) in the same chain space, make 1 tr stitch in each chain stitch, work 3 tr stitches together again at the end of the chain, and then make 1 tr stitch to the end of the row.

Finishing: Turn the work sideways and make 2 tr stitches into the end of each row. Work around the entire back opening, ending at the top. Finish off and sew in all loose ends. Sew on buttons to complete.
