Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (You should have 45 stitches.)
Body of the hat
Round 6: Start by counting the third chain as a stitch, then make 2 double crochets in the first stitch. Next, skip the next 2 stitches, and make a 3-double crochet cluster in the following stitch. Repeat this sequence all around, and join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (You should have 15 3-double crochet clusters in total.)
Round 7: Crochet slip stitches until you reach the next space between clusters. Then, chain 3 and make 2 double crochets in the same space. Continue by making a 3-double crochet cluster in the next space between clusters, and repeat this pattern all around. Finally, join with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (You’ll still have 15 3-double crochet clusters.)
Rounds 8 and 9: Simply repeat Round 7.
Ruffle Brim
Round 10: Crochet slip stitch (sl st) until you reach the space between clusters. Then make a single crochet (sc) in the same space. *Chain 3, skip the next cluster, and make a single crochet in the next space between clusters; repeat this pattern all around. Finish by joining with a slip stitch in the first stitch. (You’ll have 15 chain-3 spaces in total.)
Round 11: Start by making a slip stitch in the first chain-3 space. Then chain 3 (this counts as your first stitch), and work 4 double crochets (dc) in the same chain-3 space. *Continue making 5 double crochets in each subsequent chain-3 space around the circle. Finally, join with a slip stitch in the top of the initial chain-3. (This round will have 75 stitches.)
