dc inc: 2 double crochets in the same stitch

dc2tog: 2 double crochets worked together (decrease)

(x): total number of stitches in the round

Notes:
This pattern is worked in joined rounds. At the end of each round, join with a slip stitch. Begin each new round with ch 2, which counts as the first dc.

Body and Head Pattern:

Start the Body:

Chain (ch) 3.

Make 12 double crochets (dc) into the 3rd chain from the hook.

Join with a slip stitch (sl st). (You should have 12 double crochets now.)

Increase Round:

Make 2 double crochets in each stitch around.

Join with a slip stitch. (Now you have 24 double crochets.)

Add More Stitches:

Follow this pattern: 2 double crochets in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat all the way around.

Join with a slip stitch. (Now there are 40 double crochets.)

Start the Head:

Chain 2. In the next stitches, follow this pattern: 2 double crochets in one stitch, 1 double crochet in the next stitch, repeat once more. Leave the rest of the round unworked.

Turn your work. (Now you have 10 stitches.)

Shape the Head:

Chain 2. Then, follow this pattern: 1 double crochet in the first stitch, double crochet 2 together (dc2tog), 1 double crochet. Repeat this 3 times.

Turn your work. (You should now have 8 stitches.)

Make the Ears:

Chain 2, then 1 double crochet.

Chain 2 again and make 1 slip stitch into the next stitch (this is the first ear).

Make 3 single crochets (sc), then 1 slip stitch.

Chain 2, then 1 double crochet.

Chain 2 and make 1 slip stitch into the next stitch (this is the second ear).

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Tail:

Find the spot where you want to start the tail. For example, I started 9 stitches away from the head, on the right side of the body.

Attach your thread to that spot.

Chain 33 (or adjust this number to make the tail longer or shorter).

Double crochet (dc) into the 4th chain from the hook.

Double crochet in the next 5 stitches.

In the next stitch, make 3 double crochets all in the same stitch (this creates a little curve).

Continue with 1 double crochet in each of the next 22 chains.

To finish, attach the tail back to the body with a slip stitch (sl st) in the same spot where you started.

You’re done!

Add little accessories, like a bow on the cat’s neck or a heart on its belly.

Try different yarns to create cool textures, like fuzzy yarn for a “fluffy cat.”
