Hello, dear reader! Welcome so much to our blog Handmade Learning Here. Today, we want to chat about a super trendy craze that’s totally taking off. There are so many different patterns we can share with you, and this one is definitely one of those adorable gems we have here. If you love keeping up with the latest styles, you’re going to absolutely adore this new find — it’s all about the Labubu crochet doll!
If you’ve been scrolling through social media or visiting craft fairs lately, you’ve probably come across those charming and quirky Labubu dolls. With their big smiles, expressive eyes, and that cute-but-wild look, these characters have won the hearts of collectors and crafters alike. And of course, the crochet world just had to join in on this fun trend!
What exactly are Labubus?
Labubus are characters created by Kasing Lung, a talented Chinese illustrator who brought to life a bunch of enchanting figures in his universe called The Monsters. Among them, Labubu stands out with its playful, slightly mischievous, and incredibly lovable personality. It looks like a cute little monster, with long teeth, pointy ears, and curious little eyes — a perfect mix between a magical creature and a cuddly plush toy!
Originally, Labubus were released as vinyl collectible toys (known as designer toys), and they quickly gathered fans all around the world, especially in Asia. Over time, artists and crafters began recreating these little guys in other forms, including our beloved crochet.
How did this trend make its way into crochet?
The rise of Labubus happened right alongside the growing popularity of amigurumi — those charming crocheted little dolls. Labubu’s bold look, with its exaggerated features and unique face, made it the perfect character to turn into a fun crochet project.
Creators worldwide started designing patterns inspired by Labubu, and today you can find all kinds of crochet versions — from simple and minimalist to super detailed and textured.
Why crochet a Labubu?
Besides being a beautiful and unique piece, crocheting a Labubu is a fantastic way to stretch your creativity. You can play around with colors, hairstyles, facial expressions, and even different outfits to make your very own personalized little monster.
Here are a few reasons why you’ll fall in love with this project:
- It’s fun and different: Moving away from the usual characters, Labubu brings a fresh, modern, and bold vibe to your amigurumi collection.
- It’s collectible: Fans usually have more than one, so you can make a whole family of Labubus in all kinds of styles!
- It makes an awesome gift: Perfect for kids, teens, or adults who love pop culture and contemporary art.
- It sells great: Labubus really catch the eye at craft fairs and have a big following on social media.
Making your own Labubu
To crochet a Labubu, it helps to have some experience with amigurumi since the doll usually has delicate details like teeth, big eyes, and expressive ears. Here’s a tip: Use safety eyes or embroidered eyes, and thicker yarn for a chunkier, modern look. The best part is adding your own personality to your little monster!

Materials needed
Here’s everything you’ll need for this crochet project:
- Furry yarn (bulky weight):
Choose any color you like! I used Poppy yarn, but any thick and fluffy yarn will work. - 5.5 mm crochet hook:
This size hook works best with your bulky furry yarn. - Cotton yarn (sport weight):
You’ll need three colors:
Skin color (for the face)
White
The same color as your furry yarn (for the ears)
I used Katun Panda yarn, but you can use any soft, thin cotton yarn.
- 2.25 mm crochet hook:
This smaller hook is for the cotton yarn. - Thin black yarn or lace thread:
For small details like the eyes, nose, or mouth. - Stuffing (polyester fiberfill):
To fill your project and make it soft and fluffy. - 4×10 mm oval safety eyes:
Or you can use small pieces of black and white felt cut into oval shapes. - Tapestry needle:
This large needle helps you sew the pieces together and weave in the yarn ends. - Small sewing needle:
Useful for sewing on small details, like felt eyes if you’re not using safety eyes. - UHU glue (or any strong fabric glue):
To glue on small details, like felt pieces if you’re using them. - Blush (optional):
To add a little color to the cheeks and make your creation even cuter!
